North Fitzroy House
Freeman Street is a response to the quiet character of its inner-north context, shaped by a respect for the site’s original form and a desire to retain its grounded nature. Drawing on a deeply personal connection to the area, the design works closely with the clients to create a biophilic home where light, landscape, and materiality are carefully interwoven. Layered spatial planning brings natural light deep into the interior, while planted thresholds and framed views maintain a constant dialogue with the garden. The result is a calm, restorative home that feels embedded in place and attuned to everyday living.

Referencing Existing Forms
The design draws from existing forms on site, using their proportions, material cues, and spatial logic as a reference point to develop a response that feels grounded and continuous with its context.
Site + Place
The design is grounded in a careful reading of site and place, responding to orientation, boundaries, and the scale of the inner-north context. Each decision is made to reinforce connection to landscape, while respecting the existing rhythm and material character of Freeman Street.
A Vertical Experience
Ground, first floor, and rooftop are connected through light, voids, and carefully considered thresholds. Daylight is drawn deep into the plan and each level maintains a clear relationship to landscape, privacy, and material continuity. Curved glazing and a continuous aluminium frame define the boundary while maintaining transparency and visual connection.
“Drawing on a deeply personal connection to growing up in Melbourne’s Inner North and inspired by the original form of the site I approached North Fitzroy House through a biophilic lens. Enjoyed working closely with my clients to shape a calm, layered multi-generational home that brings light, landscape, and materiality into everyday living..”
